Freight forwarding and transport software

Orders in email, shipments in a spreadsheet, documents in binders, and the customer calls to ask where the goods are. We build freight forwarding software around exactly how your company runs its shipments.

Shipment records that don't depend on a spreadsheet

Freight forwarding and transport involve a lot of small decisions every day: which carrier or driver gets the job, at what price, when loading and unloading happen. Often it all runs through email, phone and a shared spreadsheet that only its owner understands.

Documents such as CMR consignment notes and delivery notes are scanned, sent around and searched for, invoicing waits for the paperwork, and customers call to ask where their shipment is. Retyping between email, spreadsheets and invoicing costs time and causes mistakes.

Off-the-shelf forwarding software is built for the average company. Custom freight forwarding and transport software follows your process – your types of shipments, your price lists and your relationships with carriers.

Where it hurts today

  • Customer orders arrive by email and phone and are retyped into a spreadsheet.
  • Only the dispatcher knows which carrier or driver is moving what, and when.
  • Customers call about shipment status because they can't see it anywhere.
  • CMR notes and delivery notes are hunted down in email and binders, and invoicing waits for them.
  • Invoicing customers and checking carrier invoices is done by hand.

What the forwarding system does

Orders and shipments

Each customer order is created with loading and unloading points, dates and price. The system can read an order from an email or attachment and pre-fill it.

Carriers and drivers

Assign a shipment to your own driver or an external carrier, with price and terms. You see who is moving what, and when.

Shipment status for customers

Customers see the status of their shipment in an overview or get a notification when it changes. Fewer calls asking where the goods are.

CMR and delivery notes

Documents sit with the shipment in one place. The system can read incoming documents and carrier invoices and pre-fill them for a quick check.

Invoicing

A completed shipment becomes the basis for the customer invoice. The system connects to your invoicing or accounting software, as long as it offers an API or export.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    A 30-minute call

We go through how you manage orders and shipments today, who you work with and what slows you down. No strings attached, and you don't need a specification.

  2. Step 2

    Scope and price up front

We pick the smallest piece that delivers real value – often order and shipment records with documents – and agree the scope and price before we start.

  3. Step 3

First working version in about 3 weeks

We build it and put it in the hands of your dispatchers. We show progress as we go and adjust based on their experience.

  4. Step 4

    Month by month

We add more parts – the customer overview, invoicing, integrations – based on what real use shows. You own the code and documentation, running it with us is optional, and you can stop any time.

What it costs

Development

$1,900per month of work

Development is charged per month of work. Smaller jobs take only part of a month and cost proportionally less – we agree the scope and price up front. A small app is usually done in a few weeks, a bigger one in 2–3 months. No commitment, month to month.

Running it (optional)

The code and documentation are yours – run it yourself or anywhere you like. If you'd rather not deal with it, we're happy to host and look after it.

Small app (up to 5 users)
$199per month
Standard
$390per month

Bug fixes are included in running costs; new features are built as further development (same rate, price agreed up front).

Common questions

How much does custom freight forwarding software cost?

Development is charged at a rate per month of work – see What it costs for the amount. Smaller jobs take only part of a month and cost proportionally less; we agree the scope and price up front. Running it with us is optional and billed monthly, with no per-user fee.

When is it not worth it?

If an off-the-shelf forwarding or transport program fits you without changes, is cheap and nothing gets retyped around it, keep it. The same goes if you handle a handful of shipments a month and a spreadsheet is enough. Custom software pays off where you work around the box with email and spreadsheets, or need your own process.

Will it connect to our accounting and other tools?

Yes, as long as they offer an API or export – for example your accounting software, bank or carriers. We don't replace your accounting; the system sends it the data.

Can we start with shipment records only?

Yes, that is a common start. Big systems aren't built in one go – we start with the part you need first and add more month by month.

Won't we be locked in?

No. You own the code and documentation from day one. You can run the system yourself or anywhere you like, and another developer can take it further.

Custom software instead of a box

We build every solution the same way: for exactly how you work, connected to what you already use, and you own the code and documentation.
